Review: Witch Child by Celia Rees

Summary-
"With its theme of religious intolerance and its touches of the supernatural, this is sure to be in high demand for a long time." — Kirkus Reviews
Welcome to the world of young Mary Newbury, a world where simply being different can cost a person her life. Hidden until now in the pages of her diary, Mary’s startling story begins in 1659, the year her beloved grandmother is hanged in the public square as a witch. Mary narrowly escapes a similar fate, only to face intolerance and new danger among the Puritans in the New World. How long can she hide her true identity? Will she ever find a place where her healing powers will not be feared?

Review-
An interesting tale of a young girl and her journeys. The author writes about different places and things that the girl witnesses and experiences along the way. This book has a good strong storyline. when i got to the end, i did not want the adventures and struggles to be over. I really got pulled into her world and her plight. I hope there is a sequel so I can find out what has happened to our main character. It ended in such a way that it's doubtful though. The book is written as if it has been taken right out of the actual pages of this young girls journal. This gives you a fondness and closeness to the main character. Of course, she has like minded people with kindred spirits to help her along her way. I imagine the way the author writes and describes these events are very close to life in that Era. Mary certainly had to be a brave soul to endure all that was put upon her shoulders. This book would be a good classroom text while the children were learning about the Puritans and the Witch Hunts. A very engaging read.
